FAQ

Why should I take Pilates here instead of at my gym?

True Strength Pilates offers you true Pilates in a small setting.  A lot of classes today are fusion classes that I believe don’t give you the full experience of practicing Pilates.  Class sizes are big so you are not getting as much from it as you stumble through the exercises with incorrect form from lack of attention.  Also the intention of Joseph Pilates was to use his whole system, equipment and mat, for the unique demands of the body in order to build optimal health.  So my passion is using the method from all of my training and experience in a small setting to help you achieve just that.

Who can do Pilates?

Pilates is truly the exercise that is good for Every Body no matter what your current fitness level.  Whether you are looking to add a new workout to your routine, strengthen and tone your body, enhance your sport performance, or simply move through life pain free, the pilates method is a good fit for everyone.  As a comprehensively trained instructor I teach to the individual and help you achieve your goals.

Mat work vs Equipment

Both are part of the Pilates method of exercise and when used correctly both help achieve a balanced body of equal strength and flexibility.  The equipment Joseph Pilates created was made to help your mat get stronger.  In the Mat work you use your own body weight as resistance.  The springs on the equipment provide resistance to help strengthen but also support correct movement and alignment.  So both are part of the method and both are what you will experience at True Strength Pilates.

How do I get Started?

Call or email the studio or sign up online for our Introductory Private Package, a discounted package of 3 private sessions for the person new to Pilates or the person new to this studio. The 3 sessions will provide a starting foundation in the Pilates philosophy of movement along with an introduction to the method.  It also helps us get to know each other, discuss your goals and talk about any injuries.

What should I wear and is there anything I should bring?

Please wear comfortable clothing for working out that is not too loose to help see alignment and form.  Please do not wear anything with zippers as it will cut the vinyl on the equipment.  Please also bring your water and towel.  If it is your first lesson please fill out the New Student Forms and bring it with you as well. You can find these under the tab at the top of the site.

Where to park?

Please park in the driveway choosing the furthest left spot.

What forms of payment do you accept?

True Strength Pilates accepts major credit cards through square, cash or checks.  Payment needs to be made prior to the start of the session.

What is the cancellation policy?

Thank you for respecting the 24 hour cancellation policy for all sessions and appointments. Late cancellations under 24 hours will be charged the full price of the session.  All sessions must be cancelled or rescheduled through your Client Scheduling page with Acuity 24 hours in advance in order to not be charged for that session.

How many times a week should I practice Pilates?

Pilates is actually safe to do every day but a lot of this depends on your schedule, goals and budget.  So a good recommendation is 2-3 times a week.  You could then fill your off days with other activities you enjoy to create a nice balance.  Or, with the homework you receive from your lessons, you practice some of those days on your own as well.

How fast will I see results?

Each person is different but consistency is key when it comes to results.  Working toward progress and staying on track comes with consistent practice.  So the more you put in, the more you get out applies here!

What if I have an injury?

Before your first visit you are required to complete a brief medical history form and waiver so I can learn more about your needs. Pilates is a safe exercise, and I am cautious and careful when it comes to injuries. I am accustomed to working with clients who have back, knee, and shoulder injuries, scoliosis, knee and hip replacements, etc.  Pilates works to restore alignment and strengthen the muscles that support the joints. If you are concerned about your ability to exercise, be sure to ask your doctor before starting a new exercise regime.  And if a recent injury or surgery has occurred a note from your doctor stating it is ok to proceed with exercise would be required.
